A new biometric human identification based on fusion fingerprints and fingerveins using MonoLBP descriptor

چکیده
Single biometric modality recognition is not able to meet the high performance supplies in most cases with its application become more and more broadly. Multimodal biometrics identification represents an emerging trend recently. This paper investigates a novel algorithm based on fusion of both fingerprint and fingervein biometrics. For both biometric recognition, we employ the Monogenic Local Binary Pattern (MonoLBP). This operator integrate the orginal LBP (Local Binary Pattern ) with both other rotation invariant measures: local phase and local surface type. Experimental results confirm that a weighted sum based proposed fusion achieves excellent identification performances opposite unimodal biometric systems. The AUC of proposed approach based on combining the two modalities has very close to unity (0.93). Keywords—fingerprint, fingervein, LBP, MonoLBP, fusion, biometric trait.

Biometric Matching and Fusion System for Fingerprints from Non-Distal Phalanges
Market research indicates that fingerprints are still the most popular biometric modality for personal authentication. Even with the onset of new modalities (e.g. vein matching), many applications within different domains (e-ID, banking, border control...) and geographies rely on fingerprints obtained from the distal phalanges (a.k.a. sections, digits) of the human hand structure. Motivated by ...

Prior research evidenced that unimodal biometric systems have several tradeoffs like noisy data, intra-class variations, restricted degrees of freedom, non-universality, spoof attacks, and unacceptable error rates. In order for the biometric system to be more secure and to provide high performance accuracy, more than one form of biometrics are required. Hence, the need arise for multimodal biom...

Biometric use physiological traits such as fingerprints, face and behavioral traits such as voice, hand signatures characteristics to verify an individual’s identity. The two process involved in biometrics are verification and identification. Verification process is performed by matching an individual’s biometric with the template of claimed identity only. The identification process performed b...

Biometrics is the field of technology devoted to verification or authentication of individuals using biological traits. A biometric authentication system verifies the identity of a claimant based on the person’s physical attributes, such as voice, face, or fingerprints. Its application areas include security applications, forensic work, law enforcement applications, and so on. Here we have divi...

Use of biometrics for person identification has increased tremendously over the past decade, e.g., in large scale national identification programs, for law enforcement and border control applications, and social welfare initiatives. For such large scale applications with a diverse target population, unimodal biometric systems, which use a single biometric trait (e.g., fingerprints), are inadequ...
